At Women’s Health Care we believe that all women deserve a Trial of Labor after Cesarean (TOLAC). A TOLAC is the attempt to have a vaginal birth after cesarean delivery. We are pleased to say that we have a 80% success rate for our Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC). Tampa General Hospital has one of the lowest rates of cesareans in the area.
VBAC is a safe alternative to a routine repeat cesarean. If you have a healthy pregnancy, have a low horizontal scar on the uterus and go into labor on your own at term you have about a 80% chance that you and your baby will have a safe normal birth. We are proud that this number is well above the national average of 70%.
What are some of the benefits of a TOLAC?
A successful TOLAC is associated with the following benefits:
- No abdominal surgery
- Shorter recovery period
- Lower risk of infection
- Less blood loss
If you want to have more children, VBAC may help you avoid problems linked to multiple cesarean deliveries, such as hysterectomy, bowel or bladder injury, and problems with the placenta.
