This is the process of trying for a vaginal birth following a previous cesarean delivery. We’re proud to share that our success rate for Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) is 80%. Furthermore, Tampa General Hospital boasts one of the lowest cesarean delivery rates in the region.

VBAC

A VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) refers to giving birth vaginally after having a previous cesarean section (C-section). Many women who have had a C-section in a prior pregnancy may be eligible for a VBAC in future pregnancies. At Women’s Health Care, we carefully assess and discuss each case on an individual basis. Choosing a VBAC can offer advantages, such as a quicker recovery and a lower risk of complications. We are proud to report that our VBAC success rate is significantly higher than the national average.

Benefits of TOLAC

It’s important to note that TOLAC is not suitable for every woman. Factors like the type of previous cesarean incision, the reason for the prior cesarean, and overall health will be considered by our healthcare providers to ensure the safety of both mother and baby.

A successful TOLAC is associated with the following benefits:

• No abdominal surgery with a lower risk of infection or blood loss. Additionally, a successful TOLAC provides a lower risk of complications in future pregnancies
• Shorter recovery time
• Lower Risk of Respiratory Problems for the Baby- Babies born via vaginal delivery may have a lower risk of respiratory issues. The process of passing through the birth canal helps expel fluid from the baby’s lungs, reducing the likelihood of breathing difficulties
• Fewer Long-Term Health Risks – Having fewer cesareans can reduce the long-term health risks associated with multiple surgeries, such as adhesions, scarring, and potential damage to the uterus
